Disappointment against strong opposition, but you can be very proud of your performance!
You played your hearts out, tackled like demons and might have won, if you had had a bit more luck. Sometimes your attacks lacked penetration faced by a good defence, but no one could doubt your grit, bravery and determination!
The new players are settling into the side very well, and backs and forwards combined very well. But what a day! A game better suited to ducks and laden with sympathy for anyone doing the laundry - thank goodness for automatic washing machines and tumble dryers!
The first half was very evenly fought, and we were unlucky to concede an interception try after a good run of play. These things happen, but we never let our heads drop!
Naomi, Alice (congrats on the captaincy!), and Marlo were particularly strong runners in the forwards, supported by some great tackles by Lize and Indy. We missed Kath in the scrums, but Pauline, Gemma and Lize did really well under great pressure from a heavier pack! Gemma, you are a born natural hooker! No, I don't mean that sort of hooker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Izzy and Erin were outstanding in the backs, and Ellen scored a well deserved try after some great play from Alice and Izzy.
We were under intense pressure in the second half with particularly good play from Coral, Alice, Naomi, Cerys, Erin and Marlo. We nearly scored, but Bath just pipped us to the post!
A greatly improved performance, well done!
Rucks
Good driving play with much better support for the lead player - brilliant!
Scrums
We were pushed back sometimes, but the front row did a great job in the face of powerful opposition.
Lineouts
Good jumping by Indy, but our lineout was disappointing. It was bit scappy, and we lost three of our own throws.
Forward of the match
Marlo
What a game! Tackles (including one try saver) and great runs. She saved our bacon with a wonderful turnover in the second half. Congratulations!
