A large crowd on a sunny day in Portbury were treated to a superb game between the two top sides in Somerset 2 North. Clevedon's pack had a significant weight advantage and were also able to win numerous penalties early on. But, as Gordano got into their stride, so the gaps in the visitors' defence opened up. Marcus Stratton rolled back the years with a couple of lung-bursting runs right through Clevedon's pack, whilst dynamic skipper and hooker Jack Cundick through himself into tackle after tackle. The opening score came after 10 minutes when mercurial Macie King burst though to touch down under the posts, the extras added by his brother Connor who also slotted a penalty shortly after. As befits a derby game, things got spikey at times, but the referee had an excellent game and kept things under control. Late in the first half Clevedon camped out on the Gordano try line, but the home team stole the ball and the half-time whistle blew.
After the break, Fred Young who has been converted from a prop to a centre took the game by the scruff of the neck and after 60 minutes Ben Clark scored out wide for his first senior try. Gordano probably should have scored more tries but have to be pleased to leapfrog their neighbours in the league table."
