Gordano overcame stiff opposition to book a place in their place in a second cup final of the season at Caswell Lane on Wednesday night.
Bristol Barbarians showed why they are promotion contenders to join Gordano's Somerset Premier League. They started strongly and had the better of the early exchanges. Their large travelling support really sensed an upset was on the cards. Eventually it was some of the old heads in the Gordano pack that started to dominate the tight phases.
The visiting pack started going backwards at a rate of knots in the scrum and Gordano began to get some quality possession. It was colt wing Elliott Handscombe that broke the deadlock when he finalised the best move of the game. He is starting to make a real name for himself with his try scoring exploits.
As the pitches start to firm up, it is likely that he will cross the line many more times this season. Somerset Under 20 Fly half Joe Rowsell had his kicking boots on and put some breathing space between the sides by half time having slotted his kicks at goal.
The second half was a tense affair. Barbarians refused to lie down and did themselves great credit to limit Gordano's scoring opportunities in the second period. The score finished at 16 - 12 and means that Gordano will now try to retain the trophy they won last year when they play Chew Valley in the Somerset Vase Final on a date and location still to be determined by the County officials.
Gordano's other final in the Bristol Combination Bowl will take place on Tues 9th April against Winscombe at the Bristol Harleqiuns ground. This will be a 7.30 kick off.
