GORDANO SHARKS Versus THE WURZELS

As you will be aware we have entered a float in to this year’s Portishead Carnival taking place on 14th June.

The theme is Gordano Sharks Vs The Wurzels.

Mark Davis (Fuzz to many of you) has very kindly offered to co-ordinate the efforts and we held a short planning meeting last week at the club. Preparations are well underway for the float. Andre Bailey has very kindly offered to supply the lorry and the idea is to build a rugby pitch on the trailer, complete with rugby posts, astro turf and scoreboard. We have secured a generator from Matt Paul (under 11 parent) and a sound system so we will have Wurzels and rugby music belting out! We are also securing bales of hay and possibly some cider barrels. The trailer will be available from 6pm on Thursday 12th and will be up at the club so we can apply the finishing touches. We will be working on the float on the Thursday and Friday evenings (12th & 13th) and early Sat morning on the day of the carnival.

The plan is to have as many children as possible involved on the day and helping in the run up. All the children will be in their Sharks kit and the parents dressed up as Wurzels. There is space on the float but we also need as many kids and parents to walk with the float on the day. We are producing some cheap flyers to give out to raise awareness of the club.

I must stress that if you would like your child to take part, you will need to walk with the float (dressed as a Wurzel!). I’m afraid we can’t act as a babysitting service for the day!

Any help will be welcome. Whether it’s in the run and/or on the day. There will be lots of painting, cutting and sticking to do to make the float as colourful as possible. We want to create a huge “crowd scene” by making lots of faces on paper plates and fixing these to the curtains on the trailer. This can be done by drawing faces on the plates or sticking eyes, noses and mouths cut out from magazines.

Fuzz has secured some arty and crafty stuff but we could really do with as many people on the 2 nights before to help with this. Please bring your paper plates, pens, scrap paper and any old paint in your sheds/garages up to the club along with your paint brushes.

This is a great opportunity for all involved with the club to have some fun and promote the club. Weather permitting it should be a great day.

If you’d like to get involved please let Fuzz know on 07817 506648 or email him at markdavis372@btinternet.com.

Thank you for all of your support.

Damien
