After 3 months hard work both on and off the pitch this summer the new look Piranha squad travelled to league favourites Old Reds to kick off their league campaign.
The challenge proved too much at this stage of the teams development but every player contributed to a spirited, never say die display.
Old Reds were very good, well organised and showed why they won the league last season, however the scoreline certainly didnt reflect the difference between the two sides.
Gordano can draw alot of positives from the day. Scrummage was dominant, tackling and physicality was much improved, discipline improved as the game progressed and the effort can certainly not be faulted.
Man of the match was shared by Kath Fitzpatrick who anchored the scrum and Hazel Kilduff whose strong running and physical defence was outsatnding.
Skipper Lucy Hope commented "We have had a great summer rebuilding and despite the result today I am proud of all my team. It was great to see the spirit all the way to the end and really pleasing to give debuts to Michelle Overbury, Carly Robson and Beth Hawke. I am looking forward to a really enjoyable season."
