Another commanding performance, well done! The forwards and backs combined brilliantly, and all the hard work in the training sessions paid off! The loop moves in the back line were particularly impressive and provided an extra overlap.
Thornbury started strongly, and we thought we might be in for a much tougher game. But the stuffing was taken out of them by great individual tries from Phoebe and Cerys (after great support play by Lize and Izzy). Coral's try and two further scintillating scores by Lisa added to the party. Thornbury couldn't cope with Lisa's speed and skilful interventions into the back line. Her outstanding contribution was further highlighted by some great tackles.
Indeed the tackling was effective and fearless as ever, although at times going a bit lower would have been a better option. Indy, Alice, Lisa, Phoebe, Ellen, Lize, Izzy, Pauline and Coral all made great tackles. Our grit and determination in defence can never be doubted!
Cerys kicked three conversions brilliantly and was ably assisted by Lisa who looks like a natural kicker!
Our performance in the second half was even more emphatic with 42 points in response to a well deserved try by Thornbury . Lisa scored two more tries with Phoebe, Lize, Izzy, and Cerys scoring one apiece. The two Erins did particularly well. Welcome back Erin McDermott and congratulations to Erin Watson on a fantastic debut! Pauline and Emma also had some great runs and good tackles. Well done!
Scrums
We were strong in the scrums as usual with good control and a powerful drive with two strikes against the head by Lize, helped by her two other partners in the front row, Pauline and Kath who had another great game as both player and captain. She and Jill have given so much to this club - you are both brilliant!
Lineouts
Indy's great jumping (helped by her able lifters) meant that we won our own ball - well done to you all!
Rucks
Good driving play and great turnovers, particularly from Alice - you'll have to give us a master class one day!
