Well done, Gordano, another victory richly deserved! Spectacularly successful in the first half against a team who were in the higher division last season! We showed much grit and determination in the second half without any reward. We let them run at us without closing them down quickly enough. But the younger players covered themselves with glory! With little experience, they played their hearts out and did the team proud.
We were dynamite until half-time with great runs from Phoebe, Lisa, Frankie, Alice (what a tackler!), Ellie, No 6 (?), and Cerys. Thirty one points came with two great individual tries from Cerys, two scores by the impressive Ellie (helped by great support by Phoebe) and a wonderful try from Lisa.
We were always under pressure after the break, but we managed to keep Chipping Sodbury down to two tries after some great tackles, particularly from Jill who had an outstanding half. The final whistle was a comforting sound to both the weary players and the exuberant supporters who had seen a great game of rugby - brilliant!
Scrums
Strikes against the head were two each, but we had the much stronger scrum, providing the springboard for our successful attacks. Sadly we had uncontested scrums after half-time, which robbed us of the forward momentum that was so crucial earlier.
Lineouts
Our lineouts were a bit scrappy in the first half, but improved greatly after the break. Jade made two great catches and also made several successful runs.
Rucks
We rucked well, particularly in the first half, but our counter rucking could have been more aggressive.
