Well done, Gordano! A well deserved victory to start the new season! The game got off to a scintillating start. Alice won a great turnover and Lisa accelerated through the Old Bristolian defence to score a wonderful try, converted by Cerys.
We thought this would open up the floodgates, but tries dried up completely. Old Bristolians defended well, and our attack lacked its early incisiveness. But Cerys kicked a wonderful penalty before half-time. Her kicking has improved enormously over the summer. All her practice has been well worth it. Congratulations!
Early in the second half an Old Bristolian converted try put us under great pressure. The score seemed to be 10-7 for an eternity! We lacked penetration, made silly mistakes and gave away some unnecessary penalties. Lisa, Ellie. Alice, Coral and Cerys made some great runs, but we couldn't break through.
After some nail biting moments, the game turned on two crucial periods of play - a try by Izzy after a great run by Lisa (unfairly ended by a high tackle). Then we defended defiantly against a determined Old Bristolian attack. But nerves were eased by three late tries from Lisa, Sam and Alice with two great conversions by Tash.
Scrums
What a shame! Uncontested scrums meant we lost our advantage in that part of the game. The opposition must always play with an adequate front row!
Lineouts
As always, Sam jumped well and nearly stole some turnover ball. Well done, Sam and your throwers and lifters!
Rucks
We won lots of good ball, helped by some great turnovers. Don't forget, though, to be a bit more aggressive with your counter rucking!
