Great Win

Having so far failed to record a victory in fixtures against Frampton Cottrell, Yatton, Nailsea & Backwell, and Dursley, the under 10s finally tasted success for the first time this season in a keenly contested encounter at St Bernadettes Old Boys.
On a pitch narrowed to avoid the surrounding mud, the red and blacks were quickly onto the attack and proceeded to dominate the first half without turning their advantage into points. The scrum formation of Will Hawkins, Adam Chadwick, and Sam Kessler provided some excellent possession while the centre partnership of Pete Atherton (man of the match) and Jacob Evans continually carried the ball deep into opposition territory with some determined running. However, the home defence stood firm and the first half ended scoreless.
Revitalised during the break, Gordano opened the scoring early in the second period when scrum-half Huw Evans ran through unchallenged from the back of a maul. Matthew Wilkinson dived in for a second try shortly afterwards when he just managed to squeeze inside the right corner flag after a long run and suddenly the visitors had a healthy lead. Oliver Harrison and, particularly, Ben Critchley continued to trouble the SBOB defence with some tricky runs but the home team began to exert some pressure of their own. With just a few minutes to play the lead was halved, but Gordano held on for the win with Nathan Moore securing a succession of turnover ball to keep St Bernadettes at bay.
