Oldfield to hot to handle for sharks.

After a tough fought contest last week, Gordano went into this fixture looking to avenge their defeat at Oldfield only to find Oldfield in the same form the last time these two sides met.

Gordano found themselves behind quickly with Oldfield using the speed and space with the support, a feature Gordano are trying to incorporate in their game but could not get going. Gordano were guilty of not coming up and meeting the Oldfield back line in defence and would hold back and give the opposition the upper hand in attack as Oldfield were always getting over the gain line. Which created more pressure for Gordano to deal with, and when tackles were missed more often than not Oldfield would break through and score or would have support to offload too, unlike last time these sides met Oldfield did off load the ball in attack and were not as greedy as before which reflected in the end result.

At half-time knowing the game was all but over. Gordano were told to work on putting the Oldfield back line under pressure and meeting them first which was taken on board although Oldfield scored another try early on into the second half. Gordano did build some phases and got close to the Oldfield line, eventually Andrew Hibberd scored his first try for the club by burrowing into the ground from a ruck and just squeezed on to the line to score. Mike Dyer added the extras It wasn't long though until Oldfield broke and scored again. After coming through the age groups at Gordano and currently representing Bristol under 18's Lewis Leaker made his first senior debut for Gordano and did really well as he injected some pace to the play. Unfortunately the game was already lost and although Gordano improved in the second half, Oldfield's fitness and play was far superior. Jack Thomas was awarded Man of the match and gimp of the game well went to Nino again.!!!!

Gordano face Imperial II away next week. And will need to play more as a team than individuals and as the end of the season nears our fitness needs to be much better for next season and numbers at training need to improve overall as results like this one will become more common. Thanks again to Keith Leaker and John Critchley for coming down and helping.
