Sharks bite back with 3 wins in a row as Nailsea lose derby encounter.

After last week’s comeback heroics, Gordano welcomed Nailsea and Backwell II to Caswell Lane. The focus for this week was to continue the winning run and not find ourselves behind in the first 15 minutes.

And the start of this game was different as Gordano started quick out the blocks. Phil Hodder broke through with one of his darting runs back at the opposition to be stopped in the opponents 22. Gordano kept Nailsea pinned in their own 22 and some quick hands allowed Cameron Fryer to dart into the corner and score his third try in three starts for the 2nds. The attacking intent was relentless and ruthless; Mike Dyer broke through only to pass the ball forward to Tom Harris who would have been clean through to score. Gordano’s scrum was very strong and took numerous scrums against the head to claim the ball back, the scrum was the base for the second score of the game as the scrum held steady and started to drive Nailsea back, Ben Clark and James Tuffin linked well and James Tuffin miss pass went out wide and put Cameron Fryer through to score. Gordano found themselves in their opponents 22 for the first 25 minutes, with Nailsea clearing their lines on every opportunity or turnover they would create, this led for Phil Hodder collecting the ball and bursting through to show quick feet and strength for his first and well deserved try of the season after the amount of times he has come close to scoring. Nailsea gained possession and worked some phases, after Scott Britton was penalised for going in to a ruck off of his feet, Nailsea took a quick tap penalty and got tackled short as the Gordano backline had not retreated 10. Nailsea were awarded a penalty about 30 metres from goal and opted for the posts which fortunately went wide for Gordano. Dasos Mitsis showed good strength and handed off the Nailsea back line and sprinted after a 35 metre run stepped the full back to claim his first try of the season Mike Dyer converted. James Tuffin showed his trickery with his hands and feet to then repeat a run of similar distance to Dasos Mitsis, only to have found his foot went into touch and the try not standing. With only a minute remaining of the first half Cameron completed his hat-trick after beating his man to score, Mike Dyer added the Extras.

Half Time Gordano II 29 – 0 Nailsea & Backwell II

Now with the wind behind Gordano and after the first half of pressure Nailsea were put under, you could sense a cricket score could be on the cards, but credit to Nailsea they dug deep and upped the anti in defence, Nailsea also started to make good ground up the pitch and ran some good phases only to find themselves up against a Gordano defence that were not going to let anything past them on this day. Luke Wilson was dominant in the line out stealing numerous line out balls and disrupting Nailsea’s line out, which in turn created a lot of possession for the Gordano backs and put Nailsea under more pressure, but again this half was not going all Gordano’s way with Nailsea preventing Gordano from breaking through unlike the first half. It took until the last nine minutes for Gordano to find a way through the Nailsea back line and put Cameron Fryer through to score his forth try. Then shortly after the ball was sent out wide to Seb Harding who exploited a gap and scored his second try of the season, James Tuffin converted. Then with two minutes remaining Cameron Fryer had a chance to score his fifth try only to juggle it and lose control. Nailsea showed Great Spirit and fight to not allow Gordano to turn this game into a rout and only allowed two scores in the second half, positives for Gordano this was their first clean sheet of the season and have now started to hit some form with a solid pack and quick backs combining well. Next week Gordano travel to Bath to play Oldfield Old Boys II

Final Score Gordano II 41 – 0 Nailsea & Backwell II
