Gordano U12s continued their winning run with a hard fought victory against a strong and confident Keynsham side

Playing on a full size pitch in a game of 3 periods, Gordano were slow out of the blocks and were stunned by a lively three quarter move that opened the score for Keynsham. Gordano regrouped and started to place pressure upon the Keynsham forwards and from the base of the scrum, Lewis Leaker picked up and provided the equalising score. From the restart, Gordano were immediately under pressure and it was only a number of fine tackles by three quarters Kieran Avery, Charlie Geary and Ben Beacham which kept the scores level. Keynsham continued to pressure the defensive line of Gordano using the full width of the pitch and eventually broke through to edge in front at 2 tries to 1

Gordano started the next period of the game with a new found vigour and attacked Keynsham straight from the off. The forwards started to dominate the scrums, with Drum McMillan, Curtis Southey and Eddie Tovey driving and stealing opposition ball. Good low body positions in the rucks by Alex Reynolds and Zach Wall supplied plentiful possession which led to Callum Corcoran driving forward to level the score at 2 tries a piece. This was quickly followed by a mercurial piece of individual skill from Lewis Leaker to score his 2nd try of the game to put Gordano in front. The three quarters, now making full use of the width and showing some great handling skills, set up Louis Wall to finish off a fine move with a deserving try to push Gordano further in front. Gordano continued to win ball from the scrum and an opportunistic kick through by Sam Hodge allowed Ben Greeslade to show his pace by picking up and scoring Gordano’s 5th try.

Keynsham responded in the final period with full force and determination but Gordano’s defensive line showed some tackling of the highest order from Jack Pope, Jordan Mitchell and Josh Ong making it very difficult for the Keynsham players to score. Keynsham finally did find a gap through the defence, reducing the points gap to 25 – 15. Keynsham, now piling on the pressure came close to scoring on two occasions but excellent try saving tackles from 'Man-of-theMatch' (sponsored by Wall & Sons, Contractors) Sam Hodge and Lewis Leaker meant that the Gordano line remained unbreached.

With minutes to go both teams were showing 100% passion and commitment, and some excellent rugby was seen by the many adoring parents and coaches on the line.

A further display of defensive work as a complete unit by Gordano kept the scores at 25 – 15 and handed them a hard earned but deserved win.
