'Twas a stormy March morning at the graveyard where the Dursley hoards took on the hardcore of Gordano U14s and guests from Nailsea & Backwell and the visiting side.
April wind and rain arrived early and set up difficult conditions for both 15s including a swirling crosswind. A fiercely well contested first 20 minutes saw both sides testing defences who both battled well. A nil-nil score line disguised an intriguing contest with a high standard of tackling from all 30 players.
In the final seconds Dursley broke the deadlock with an unconverted try in the corner to end a great first half of spirited rugby. The visitors took the 5 point lead into the second half and prepared for the Gordano response.
The second half continued the fiercely fought contest with probing runs from both sides and well timed tackling, As the rain intensified the pressure was sustained and the game was held in the balance until Ando scored to take it to 5 all. Both teams played with commitment until the whistle. A draw was a just result in a game where the quality of play beat the atrocious conditions.
