U14s play 1st class on the 1st Pitch

Gordano Sharks v North Petherton (Home)
24th November 2013

Won 71 – 7

Sharks U14s were proud to play on the 1st XV pitch for the first time this season, and it showed against a brave and resilient North Petherton Team. The value of an inclusive squad programme was also evident, with 8 players missing for various reasons and still a squad of 19 available on the day.

Sharks revelled in the space and firm pitch to score within the first 10 minutes, through a jinking try following a 5m scrum, from Hamish Bonar at fly-half. This proved to be the prelude to an excellent game from the No. 10 who worked tirelessly in defence, and creatively in attack to play his best game yet in the Sharks shirt.

Sharks continued to dominate possession and territory to score four further tries through lock Sam Kessler (2), back row players Jordan Shaddick & Jacob Evans

North Petherton hit back with a try of their own, through some excellent driving play and direct running, which was no less than they deserved.

After the break Sharks continued to press with some direct running through the forwards – with JB, Ollie Maggs, Pete Atherton and Sam Kessler to the fore. This was ably marshalled by scrum-half Huw Evans, who used the good ball created to service the pacey back-line. Jordan Shaddick also enjoyed a very fine game and worked hard and selflessly to ensure the ball was spread wide. His efforts were supported by the ever present Pete Atherton, enjoying his finest season, Ollie Maggs, Jack Thorntonn, Alex Bowell and JB.

North Petherton continued to battle away and came close on a couple of occasions, with only a resolute defence shutting them out. Their character and resilience in the face of a Shark attack of ferocious intent gained the respect of all those present. However, it was not enough to stem the tide and strong running from Adam Chadwick, Jamie Judd, George Briggs and Wesley Wan created holes for centres Josh Porter, Briggs and wing Macauley Chesson to score further tries in addition to a fourth from Kessler.

The scoring was completed by Jacob Evans, now playing on the wing, who caught the ball from the kick-off to outstrip the tiring defence.

Jordan Shaddick (1)
