60 points in the sun at the graveyard

An exciting opening five minutes led to tries for both sides on a sunny Graveyard morning. Both sides committed to attack with Leon Paul and Sam Chigbo crossing for the home side to give them an initial 10-7 lead.To balance the sides, Gordano rotated players into the visitors side. All those who wore the yellow jersey equited themselves well. A dominant Gordano scrum was balanced by a highly effective Keynsham in the loose who repeatedly turned over home ball.

Both sides had further chances in the half to push into the opposition 22 but strong defences resisted further scoring. Despite that lack of points the touch line crowd enjoyed a brilliantly fought first half contest. The deadlock was only broken in the final seconds of the half when a Leon Paul pass on half way enabled Isaac Barr to accelerate, chip over, pick up and touch down for a third Sharks try.

At 15-7 Gordano kicked off the second half and soon after that the scoring opened with a Keynsham interception try. Sharks hit back with some well worked attacking moves.Their second half scoring was opened by a Leon Paul try that pushed the Sharks lead to eight points. The visitors responded with vigour; on the Sharks 5m line they kept up the pressure and from a scrum 5m out from the Sharks line yielded Keynsham a 5 point response to close the score to 20-17.

An Isaac Barr breakout was thwarted by a great Keynsham tackle to stop him 5m from the line, and excellent clear-out by Matt Eichenberger working hard to get in support allowed Ethan Sefton to collect the ball from the floor and touch down a fifth Sharks try. Minutes after, Keynsham fought fiercely to construct a well worked score in the right corner which was converted with a great strike by the visitor's kicker. With a one point difference at 25-24 there was all to play for.

In the last five minutes Gordano struck with a Sam Chigbo sprint to the line to lift the gap to 6 points but Keynsham were still in the game. Gordano kept their nerve and an excellent attack in short space down the right led to a last minute Matt Eichenberger try under the posts and a Leon Paul conversion to finally seal victory for the home side and a 37-24 final score.

All parents and supporters thoroughly enjoyed the game played in great spirit and with attacking ambition and skill on show from both teams.
