Gordano U15s ever expanding squad welcomed a well drilled Clifton side to Portbury to contest the Preliminary round of the BJC cup.
Clifton's heavier pack dominated the early exchanges with their scrummage a powerful weapon that meant the home side had to live off very limited possesion.
To Gordano's credit they defended to a man and any points conceeded in the first half were hard fought for. Half time Clifton lead with 2 converted tries.
The second half was a much closer affair. Clifton winning 3 tries to 2.
Gordano's pack began to win more ball with the back row of Louis Wall, Sam Hodge and Charlie Geary winning many battles for possesion. This allied to the power of lock Alex Reynolds and work rate of the front five provided the platform for Half backs Lewis Leaker and Sam Ashbee to release their exciting backline.
Centres Jordan Mitchell and debutant Finn Murphy made inroads allowing speedsters Sam Fear, Shay Ford and Harrison Williams to break away.
Two excellent tries followed for Sam Ashbee and Sam Fear. Both the result of pace allied to a willingness to pass the ball and find space.
Coach Ian Pope said "We have focused more on our contact skills and defence this summer, however we are particularly pleased that all the players still endeavour to play with the ball in hand and with a sense of adventure."
Man of the match goes to Charlie Geary whose work rate in both defence and support was outstanding.
Thanks to experienced referee Kevin Instance whose performance helped to provide both sets of supporters with an excellent mornings junior rugby.
