Thornbury U16 v Gordano U16

Memories of a stormy morning victory last season were carried to Rockhampton Road as the U16s prepared to see if they could carry on their winning streak against a strong Thornbury squad.
A slow Gordano start surrendered an early 5 point lead to the hosts and an injury to Kody Golding minutes after his return to the season. Showing too much respect the visitors were hesitant into getting tackles in early and allowed a 17 point lead to Thornbury. Sharks confidence grew and they pushed back, their endeavour only undone by intelligent back play by the hosts. The first half 43 nil could have shaken a weaker squad.
Sharks started the second half committed to regaining their pride Their early pushes were hampered by a struggle to secure phases of play but committed tackling by the Gordano squad steadied the scoreboard and the Sharks poise. 10 minutes in Thornbury recovered their scoring but the Sharks did not lose focus. A Gordano try followed to level the half at 5 all. The final quarter was closely fought but the hosts maintained the upper hand to leave a final score of 60-5.
