Gordano running rugby produces winning performance

Sharks took to the top pitch looking for their first consecutive wins of the season following last week’s tightly fought victory at Nailsea and Backwell. In a show of intent Macie King’s kick off was captured by the home team who started with commitment. The effective phases that followed led to a great finish by Macie that gave the home team a well-earned early 5 point lead.
From the subsequent kick off the visitors fought back into the Gordano 22. Determined thrusts to the line were defended well. Following the Weston forwards being held up the resulting Sharks scrum was won and that gave some breathing space and a kick away from the try line. From turnover ball at the line out a series of well worked moves by Sharks produced territory winning phases and an Ed Magromalis try. The home sides third try followed a well gathered kick off and a Leon Paul push through the Weston line. The offload to Isaac Barr produced a chip over the fulkback which was gathered by Aaron Southey to cross under the posts (conv Macie King).
In the next ten minutes Weston fought back to the Sharks line but again strong defence repeatedly kept the visitors at bay and eventually pushed them back into their 22. A long kick from Weston into the Sharks 22 unleashed the finest Gordano move of the half. Macie King countered from 10 minutes away from his own try line down the right and his offload sent openside Ed Magromalis through the heart of the visitors defence. A well timed pass released Hooker Sid Viney to score an unconverted try and push the lead to 22 points.
Weston pressured in the final 10 minutes of the first half but score saving tackles repeatedly kept them out. Continued threat enabled Weston to sneak a converted try from a turn over 5 metre scrum to settle the half time account at 22-7 to the hosts.
The second half started with some Gordano handling and tackling errors (from going too high) and Weston capitalised to score an early converted try. Sharks were initially shaken by the renewed threat and the visitors grew in confidence. Gordano were finally settled by a determined individual James Hawkins break down the right touch line to set up Ed Magromalis with his second try of the day. Following the Weston kick off a well-timed Macie King offload and a bewitching Ethan Sefton dummy set up the fifth Sharks try for Wing Ethan Sefton after a lung punishing 40m run in.
Weston forwards continued to threaten the hosts with passion and strong team work which eventually produced the visitor’s third try from a No 8 pick and go from the 22 narrowed the score to 32-19. The final quarter continued to feature a determined fightback from Weston which was resisted well. Home players, such as Connor Adams, threw themselves repeatedly into tackles that disrupted the Weston flow. There was a fourth try from a lineout catch and drive in the closing minutes which narrowed the lead to 8 points. Both sides battled until the final whistle and a 32-24 score line reflected another well fought contest and a valuable Sharks win.
