Great Win

On a bright and dry day the conditions were perfect for the running rugby for which the U16’s have become known. Much was expected of a Dings team that would surely include some star players from such a big Club. As it turned out the opposition came with a mindset to try and intimidate the Sharks into submission with what can only be described as foul play at its worst combined with verbal threats to boot. However the home team were determined to try and play Rugby and soon proved the point that focused aggression will always win as Mike Carver ran in his first try of the day to complete a good move from the backs. The forwards continued to dominate at the breakdown and with a flood of quick possession the backs once again ripped open the opposition defence with Jack Williams threading a kick through for Mike Carver to chase only to see him tackled without the ball as he was about to pounce and score, leaving the ref with no choice but to award a penalty try. Before the half was up Carver was true to his name as he carved out another try for the Sharks with Joe Rowsell finally finding his kicking boots to put the conversion over.

Early in the second half saw a rare blind side burst from the base of the scrum by Will Lavis who must have covered all of 20 meters before offloading to Carver who was unable to add to his score. A barnstorming display from Josh Collins was rounded off with a great crash ball run to seal the victory. Despite the opposition pulling a try back. Final score 22 – 7. A big thank you must go to the referee who did a fantastic and well done to all the team for concentrating on the rugby despite the intimidation.

Man of the Match accolade goes to Mike Carver for his superb finishing although he owes a big thank you to the whole of the pack for their speed and aggression at the breakdown.
