12 months ago this team travelled to Wells for a cup tie and were smashed by 30+ points. It shows how far they have come this season to lose narrowly in this County Cup Semi Final by 23 to 14.
Disappointment was etched on their faces at the final whistle, but they were soon reminded by their Coaches and the supporting Parents that their performance was one of commitment, bravery and free-flowing, running rugby and that they should be very proud.
The scrum was extremely solid with man-of-the-match Tom Instance, Jack Pope, Curtis Southey and Joe Bell pushing their bigger opponents backwards at scrum-time.
Locks Callum Corcoran and Zach Wall tackled well and ran the ball back time and time again, whilst loose forwards Sam Hodge, Louis Wall, Charlie Geary and Connor Fairclough hit ruck after ruck and linked well with the backs.
#9 Lewis Leaker drove his team forward and was successful with both conversions out wide. Try scorer Lewis Eaves had a stormer at fly-half scoring the try of the tie with 5 minutes to go, whilst Finn Murphy, Sam Ashbee and Sam Fear caused havoc in attack and defended stoutly.
Wingers Harrison Topps, Ben Beacham and Olly O'Hare were outstanding with ball in hand & in defence, and Wells school pupil Shay Ford scored an early try for Gordano and caused panic every time he got the ball.
