Gordano progress into Combination Cup Semis

On the Saturday before Christmas Gordano played Frampton cotterell in the Bristol combination vase 1/4 finals. Gordano wanted to finish the year on a high and with the sad passing of one of the clubs longest serving members Dennis Chandler, they wanted to put a performance that would have made him proud. After a minutes silence gordano started with a bang and where putting Frampton under lots of pressure. Gordano got the first points of the game from a catch and drive and hooker max southey came away with try. Only 4 minutes later and elliot handscomb was being put away by Jack Thomas for the second try of the match this time converted by Sam hodge. Frampton realised that they needed to keep the ball tight if they were to have any chance of building any pressure but the gordano defence was well organised and handled most of the attacking plays but after 10 minutes of defending Frampton finally got over the gordano line, 7-12 after 20 minutes. Unfortunately for Frampton the Christmas festivities had caught up on a few of them and as the game went on their fitness faded away. In the last 10 mins of the half gordano got 2 quick trys first came after a massive tackle from Jack Thomas which dislodged the ball and Sam hodge scooped it up and ran in an easy 7 points, you would have thought!!! Hodge took to long on the conversation and was charged down lucky enough he had another chance only minutes later as Jack Thomas ran in one for himself. This time converted from the touchline!!! Ht 7-24

The second half started with the worse try of all time when Joe roswell kicked ahead and the ball bounced around off head, backs and bums until roswell fell over on the ball. Moments later flanker Fred young found himself in space and wondered though a hole for an easy score. As fitness was kicking in for both side due to early Christmas celebrations what Frampton didn't want was 4 19 year old coming in to up the pace, will magromasis on debut was making tackle after tackle and rounded scrum halve Toby baxter really lifted the performance. With only minutes left handscomb went in for his second try of the game but gordano saved the best till last. With only 1 minute left the game restarted gordano attacked and great link up play by young but Jordan Mitchell in space and he spend his way though 5 would be tackles to score his first try for the 1st team and what a try it was. Final score 7-52.

It was a great way to finish a fantastic year with gordano top of Somerset Premier and in 3 cups as well. Gordano have a week off then back with the potential title decider against wiveliscombe away on the 6th of January.
