The sharks started the stronger winning an early penalty where they opted to go for goal. The kick came off the left hand upright and out, bouncing once before being gathered by the Gordano centre Owen Abbott who looked like he would score but was tackled well from behind and the ball was lost forward. The resulting scrum resulted in a Nailsea penalty and they were able to clear their lines. It was a combination of penalties and handling errors that allowed Nailsea field position from which they got over the line with a well worked move for a 7-0 lead. Gordano managed to score mid way through the first half, driving a scum over the line for number 8 Mike Yandell to score. The game remained at 7-7 until half time.
Nailsea, playing down the hill scored first in the second half to give them the lead with a well struck penalty. With the home support in full voice Nailsea continued to push forwards but were not able to extend their lead. Gordano managed to hold on to the ball a little better and push the ball toward the right hand corner where they were able to get their driving game going, this tactic bore fruit on 68 minutes as a maul muscled its way over the line with both Fred Young and Matt Steven having hands on the ball, the try was awarded to the skipper as it was his birthday! Having the lead for the first time gave Gordano the spirit to continue to push forwards, again playing from the right hand side the ball was pushed a couple of passes left and found Jack Hendy flying through on a familiar line to score under the posts, Joe Rowsell adding the extras to seal the win.
It was not a vintage performance but Gordano did well to come through with the points.
