Sharks come from behind to claim a close victory

Gordano welcomed Torr RFC to a muddy Caswell lane attempting to extend their unbeaten run . Despite the heavy conditions Torr looked to get the ball wide from the start testing the Gordano drift defence which looked to be well organised. On the first real visit into the Torr 22 Gordano managed to work a trademark catch and drive with Tom Arnall getting the touchdown, Joe Rowsell added a good conversion. This was a catalyst for a very good 20 minute spell for the sharks who should have scored soon after when the ball was moved wide where centre Owen Abbott broke the line but was unable to find Josh Richards. Another driving maul looked to be going all the way before splintering into touch fractionally short of the line. Despite the strong start Gordano were unable to add to their lead and it was Torr who got off the mark with a penalty to reduce the lead 4 points.

After 25 minutes the game shifted as the ref showed Gordano winger Aaran Thomas a yellow card for a tip tackle that appeared from the side was jumped into. This caused a little bit of panic in the Gordano ranks and three minutes later Torr picked out an interception and ran in under the posts for a converted score that took them 7-10 ahead against the run of play.

The second half was a nervy affair with Gordano at the mercy of the referees whistle which prevented them getting the territory they needed to pressurise Torr. The Torr scrum half controlled the game well, finding space behind the Gordano back three with series of well directed kicks. The Gordano defensive lineout stood firm throughout and the home side restricted the visitors to a single attempt at goal which drifted wide.

30 minutes into the second half and after a series of reset scrums Gordano were awarded a penalty try for the Torr pack deliberately wheeling, this put them back in front and they managed to hold out for a hard fought 14-10 victory.

It was a good victory against a team who have had the bests of meetings between the 2 sides in recent years. Gordano now prepare for an away game to a strong St Bernadettes team in a fortnight.
