With the season running towards a close, Gordano travelled into the heart of Exmoor to face a Wiveliscombe side that have had a difficult season. The two sides have had some very close battles in recent seasons but this march was one way traffic with Gordano running in 7 tries and going away with a bonus point victory. This success was despite several enforced changes needing to be made due to a combination of injury and in availabilities. The lack of consistency with the match day squad has certainly held the Gordano side back this season but it has also given several others the opportunity to show what they can do in first team rugby.
Despite some unfamiliar faces in the squad from the lower sides in the club it was the regular contributors that got their names on the scoreboard. Captain Fred Young, Jack Hendy, Louis Leighton and Tom Arnall all cross for tries. Owen Abbott was again the outstanding performer and he bagged 3 tries of his own. Joe Rowsel had a great day with the boot he slotted 6 conversions with many of them from the touchline.
Gordano travel to St Bernadette's Old Boys on Easter Saturday.
Gordano reserves were handed the points in what was to be there last game of the season when Oldfield cried off, unable to raise a side. They finish their league campaign in second spot in Somerset 2 North. This is their highest ever league position. The side has been dominated by youngsters with a few old hands to show them the ropes and was superbly led by captain Matt Chadwick. Many of this side are sure to make an impression in first team next season.
