Gordano made the long journey to Minehead on Saturday knowing that they would be in for a tough afternoon. Despite having comfortably beaten them at home earlier in the season, they knew how much more difficult a side they are at their home ground.
Played in glorious conditions, the game couldn't have got off to a worse start. With barely 2 minutes on the clock, fly half Chris Worgan tried a miracle pass close to his own line. Unfortunately the pass found the hands of the Minehead centre who trotted under the posts. Worgan knew that he had some amends to make and did a pretty good job of rectifying things over the next 15 minutes when he powered over the line for 2 tries of his own.
Gordano were making good ground by spinning the ball. Wing Elliott Handscomb made several clean breaks and was unfortunate to have not scored on at least 2 occasions. Playing up the slope in the first half, Gordano were in a comfortable position at half time to be leading by 12 points to 7.
Early second half tries from Owen Abbott and Joe Rowsell extended the lead further, but Minehead had far from given up. They started to give the large home support something to cheer about when they powered over for a try and then kicked a penalty to get within 7 points of Gordano with 10 minutes remaining.
As Minehead pressed to tie things up, Joe Rowsell pounced on a loose pass to run in the final try of the match.
Gordano 2nds were given a walkover by Old Culverhaysians who could not field a team.
Gordano host Winscombe next Saturday in their final home game of the season.
