Derby win for Gordano

Despite missing 10 first teamers, Gordano fancied their chances of completing a double over their local rivals, having beaten them at the away fixture earlier in the season.

Gordano soon brushed aside the injury and non availability issues when No 8 Tom Arnall bundled over the line for the opening score after five minutes. Joe Rowsall added the conversion.

The game then turned into an arm wrestle for the next 50 minutes, with both sides having scoring opportunities and both battling hard to gain dominance in the game. The Nailsea and Backwell side showed some real adventure, but struggled to win enough ball to really threaten the score board.

It was Gordano who scored next when the visitors were penalised at a ruck and Rowsall slotted the penalty kick from in front of the posts. Needing two scores to win, Nailsea and Backwell started to play a more expansive game and Gordano began to capitalise on errors that inevitably came.

Colt Louis Leighton crossed the line after a great flowing move only to drop the ball. Soon after, Tom Arnall forced his way over the line and Rowsall again converting to finish the scoring.

This win will give this young side a much needed boost ahead of their Bristol Combination Vase match tonight (Wed) at Caswell Lane. This will be the first match under Gordano’s new floodlights. This game will kick of at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, Gordano will face a sterner test away at Midsomer Norton, who are currently second in the Somerset Premier League.
