BROTHERS Joe and Tom Harris claimed tries as Gordano moved up to fourth place in Somerset Premier with a 23-12 derby win at Nailsea & Backwell.

Gordano took another much changed side to local rivals Nailsea and Backwell on Saturday. The Sharks looked very smart in their new kit sponsored by Virtuoso, the company owned by former Gordano and England u18 player Ben Harvey.

Playing up hill in the first half Gordano found themselves under a lot of early pressure. It was fortunate for the Sharks that the home side's kicker was having an off day when two relatively simple penalties went wide in the opening minutes. Gordano then rallied and started to win a good deal of ball. Perhaps guilty of trying to be too expansive in their own half, it was two consecutive handling errors that were pounced on by Nailsea and Backwell to gain two tries. As the first half went on, Gordano began to get even more possession and were now stretching the home side. Two penalties from Joe Rowsall got Gordano on the score board. Another attack saw Gordano progress up the steep hill. A simple handling move gave Joe Harris enough space to sneak in at the corner. It was now becoming clear that by passing the ball and creating space, Gordano were presenting real problems to the home side's defence. At half time, Gordano were full of confidence despite trailing by 12 points to 11. The infamous Nailsea and Backwell slope was going to a great advantage for Gordano in the second half.

Erly in the second period, Ash Cottrall caught a loose kick and reurned it with interest on one of his maizey arcing runs which complete;y threw the defence before speeding into the corner for Gordano's second try. Rowsall converted from the touchline against a very tricky wind.

Shortly after, the second Harris brother, Tom got his name on the score sheet when he was put into space but 70 metres from the try line. His strength and speed proved enough to get to to the line. This was well deserved , as Tom Harris had looked dangerous and threatening all afternoon. This was a fine win against a dogged Nailsea and Backwell team by 12 - 23 and sees Gordano rise to 4th place in Somerset Premier League. Man of the match was Tom Arnall who was involved in everything all game. His contribution is growing every match and his talents have now been spotted by the county selectors. Already playing for the Bristol Combination U20s along with fly half Joe Rowsall, he has now been selected for the Somerset U20s squad along with fellow Sharks, Kaine Sothey, Pat Mayer and Rowsall.Next week will be real test as Gordano welcome unbeaten Midsomer Norton to Caswell Lane.

Gordano 2nd team remain unbeaten and top of Somerset 2 North Division with a hard fought 17 - 7 win against Avon. Avon benefited from the cancellation of their first team game to bolster their second string. This turned out to a real good test for Gordano and is further proof of how well this young side is maturing.
