The 1s travelled up the M5 on Saturday to play Coney Hill in the league for the first time in 30 years. Coney Hill who came down from South West 1 last season where an unknown quantity so no one knew or expected what was to come.
The game started fairly evenly with Gordano taking time to settle. After 7 mins some great link up play allowed openside flanker Tim Statton to power over to score our first 5 points of the season. Sam Hodge adding the extra 2 points. It took another 18 mins before Gordano crossed the try line again, this time Sam Hodge scored after some lovely link up play within the backs. He also converted to make it 0-14 going into half time.
The game become one sided in the 2nd half and Gordano's more powerful scrum and forward play no match for the home side. 56 mins in newly converted winger Jack Thomas took a high ball 40 metres out and powered his way past 4 defenders to score near the posts to make a simple 2 pointer for Hodge.
Further scores were added by Hodge, Thomas & Holmes McAdam to make the final score 0-38.
Next weeks away fixture v Winscombe should prove a tougher test but a great start.
