1s beat Matson to make a great start to 2019

Gordano rugby started 2019 in some style with a last minute bonus point win at home to tittle chasing Matson.

Matson started the game as they did at their place by coming out the blocks from the start and scoring 2 trys in the first 10 minutes. Gordano never panicked and were soon on the score board themselves after some lovely hand in the backs to give rotund prop Dane southly the chance to score in the corner. Gordano were starting to play some of their best rugby of the year with go forward from Chiddle and Arnall the backs had a platform to attack from and it wasn't long until No 10 Joe Roswell dodged his way under the posts for gordano's 2nd try. Converted by hodge.

Matson showed why they are one of the top sides in the league as they bounced back and scored another Converted try but gordano finished the half with a penalty goal by Sam hodge. Ht 15-21

The second half started the same as the first with Matson being the stronger side and they got their 4th try of the afternoon but this time they missed the conversation, but as like the first half gordano bounced back and it was flanker Jack Thomas that got gordano's 3rd try. Hodge Converted. Gordano were now riding the crest of a wave and got their bonus point try from captain arnall, this gave gordano the lead for the first time in the match.

With 10 minutes left things got better for gordano as Royce Chiddle scored the 5th try of the match for gordano but things took a dip when Gordano backs dropped the ball while trying to clear their lines Matson pounced and scored to take a  1 point lead with 4 minutes left. Gordano rolled up thier sleeves and went in search for the win. After Matson had exited from the restart gordano slowly made ground up the pitch keeping the ball well and forcing Matson not to give a penalty in range for hodge. As gordano got closer to the Matson line No 10 Joe Rowsell dropped back in the pocket and dropped a goal to take the lead for gordano, all eyes were now on the ref, was their time for a kick off, the answer was no full time gordano 35-33 Matson.

After 2 weeks off this is exactly the performance gordano needed to produce to kick start the new year. Next up away at league leaders Midsomer Norton 2.15 ko.
