In front of a large Friday night crowd gordano took on Avonmouth in the battle of the bridge with both teams serving up a cracker of a local derby.
Gordano started quickly and were making in roads into the Avonmouth defends and after a break from hack last full back finished off the move with a try under the post, conversion added by Conner King. Avonmouth responsed Well to the poor start and were building phases but the gordano defence was matching it phase by phase. After 25 minutes Avonmouth had their first chance of points with a penalty kick which they took. After that Avonmouth, for the first time in the match got into the gordano 22 and came away with try to take the lead 7-8. Just before the break gordano had a great opportunity to regain the lead but a forward pass when the try line was calling ment that Avonmouth were up at half time even though gordano had looked the better side for most of the half.
The second half was very much like the first with gordano playing some good rugby but failing to add to the score board. Twice gordano thought they had scored but for a knock on on the line. Meanwhile Avonmouth who weren't having too many trips to the home teams 22 were getting some points with each visit and were 7-16 up after a try and penalty goal. As the game went on gordano keep up the pressure on the Avonmouth line and when scrum half Scott Magrath slipped 2 meters out and for the ref to give a knock on just summed up gordano's efforts in the match, good but no cigar. Final score 7-16.
This was a great occasion for both teams and the crowd were treated to a great local derby. Gordano played very well but need to take their chances if they want to move up the table.
Next week gordano are away to Barton hill, 2.30 kick off.
