Gordano's 1s put in a great shift but it wasn't to be.

The new rugby season started on Saturday with the first ever league match between Gordano and Clevedon.

Caswell Lane was packed with around 800 spectators coming in to watch an entertaining game of rugby between 2 teams with differing strengths and styles. the game started with passion and physicality with both teams sizing each other up trying to find each others weakness. Gordano had the first chance with points when a penalty kick just push past the post but it was Clevedon after 18 minutes that got the games first points with a penalty of their own. soon after Clevedon got the first try of the game when a fly half break was finished off by the centre for a converted try. Clevedon with there tails up added to the score line with another try from a driving maul. Gordano didn't let their heads drop and soon scored a classy try straight off a scrum where the back line opened up the holes for Debutante winger Jack Last to score in the corner. Clevedon were soon down to 14 after flanker Rory Biggins was shown a yellow card for one to many penalty's, Gordano used the extra space and nearly score a second when full back Noah Homes Mcadam was brought down just millimetres from the line but the full back scored just moments later when collecting a clearance kick he side steps 3 players before gliding thought the defence to score under the post for a fantastic individual try. With the half coming to an end Clevedon picked up another 3 points to send the score 12-18

Clevedon started the second half the better scoring 2 trys and a penalty to move the score up to 12-33 but once again gordano didn't let this stop them trying to play and it was another debutante who scored when scrum half Scott Magrath ran in from 20 metres after spotting a gap around the breakdown. Gordano went searching for a forth try which could have given them 2 bonus points but after a knock on veteran scrum half tom Thie hacked the ball forward and taking a quick throwing lead to a try under the post for another 7 points on the stroke of full time. Final Score 19-40. Clevedon Fully deserved the win but the score seemed a little harsh on Gordano as they were in the game for large periods and played some promising rugby throughout.

Next week Gordano are at home to Wells 3pm kick off, where they will be hoping to be collecting their first points of the season.
