1st XV make light work of local rivals.

Gordano run rampant at Nailsea

Gordano took the short trip over the hill to their close rivals Nailsea and backwell. The ravens where confident after an unbeaten start to the season but gordano where in no mood to let that continue. Gordano where lead out by stand in captain kane Westley who vitally won the toss and elected to play up the slope in the first half. Gordano started well with driving runs with options out wide giving them great field position this was rewarded with thier first try though matt Steven who showed great foot work and unleshed his trade mark show and go to touch down under the posts.

Nailsea slowly got a foot hole in the game and levelled up after a training ground move at a 5 meter lineout. Nailsea where now using there big ball carriers well driving down the slope but excellent defence by gordano ment they weren't able to add to the scoreline. Gordano on the other hand were keeping the ball well and when the opportunity present itself they would move the ball wide and a second try was added by Jack Thomas, Sam hodge excellently converted from out wide. With time running out in the 1st half Nailsea where keen to add to thier score and got a second try to only trail 12-14 at half time.

Second half gordano now running down the hill where happy to up the tempo and play a little wider than they did in the first half and it only took 2 minutes before replacement Ben Wilson scored. Nailsea continued to try and get their big ball carriers to punch though the middle put up the slope it's a lot harder to do, Gordano on the over hand had much more flow to thier game and had another try from winger Josh Richards. Nailsea rallied from then and got a try of their own, this seemed to snap gordano into another gear. Wilson added to his tally and and then debutant Zach wall borrowed over to cap off a great first game for the 1st team. Gordano finished strongly with another 2 trys from Richards and hodge to take the final score to 19-52. Head coach Chris Hurd said" to score 8 trys away from home is a great achievement."

Their were some great performances though out the team with Jack Thomas working hard around the field, Jack Hendy controlling the mid field but this weeks marks barber's man of the match was gordanos returning player Tim Statton after a couple of years at Clevedon.
Next week gordano are at home to St bernadettes 3pm ko.
