Wivvy take the spoils.

A large crowd gathered at caswell lane last Saturday to watch the 2 teams who has started the season with maximum points. Wiveliscombe are thought to be the favourites to win Somerset premier this year and showed their intentions from the start of the game with a try in the first 5 minutes. Gordano came back straight away with a penalty goal from Alex walder. Wivy again showed there quality and put the gordano defence under pressure, Gordano worked hard but wasn't getting off the line to force the pressure back on to their opponents. Wivy extended there lead with a converted try 3-12. Gordano seem to wake up after this and started to build some phases together, each time they did wivy gave a penalty away to stop any momentum in gordanos play, unfortunately they didn't count on the boot of Alex walder who kicked gordano back into the game leveling it up to 12-12. Wivy got there own penalty goal just before half time to take the lead 12-15.

Gordano started the second half well and were a linking well in midfield and where finally aloud to play some good rugby, after some good build up gordano made space out wide and winger Josh Richards finished well got get gordanos first try of the game. Wivy were never going to give up and after a gordano lineout where wivy numbers where a little suspect, wivy claimed the ball and set an act which lead to a try for them to read take the lead. Wivy contuined to to play some good rugby and where rewarded with another try my there winger. Gordano where never going to give up and went on the attack for themselves replacement Jack Thomas was making ground with every carry he made and got gordano deep into wivy 22, good play from the forwards opened a hole for kane southey to score out wide. This is where things got a little confusing, the ref had the score with gordano trailing by 5, game on with 6 to play. From the kick off gordano gave away a kick able penalty which they took to extend their lead to 8 points 5mins to play. Gordano went straight on the attack after the kick off and wivy where trying to kill the ball at every opportunity, with a penalty to gordano in front of the post gordano took the scrum and set up an attack which looked like Jack Thomas scored but the ref was on the opposite side and couldn't see it, from the follow scrum gordano did score and with the conversion it turned into a 1 point game with 1 minute left. Gordano got the ball back from the kick off and went on the attack again for wivy again trying to kill the ball but with the new laws where there is always time for a lineout from a penalty, Gordano drove into the wivy half. Unfortunately during another attack gordano where striped of the ball in contact which ended the game. The confusion came in the bar where the ref was told of his miss calculation in the score and changed the final score to 29-32, a 3 point loss not the 1 point game he kept telling everyone during the game.

That aside gordano where bitterly disappointed to lose a close game which they had every chance of winning. The support on the side lines gave the team real energy and the impact from the bench shows the depth in the squad. The Gatehouse Architectural man of the match was replacement Jack Thomas, his carrying and impact into the game was the boost the team needed.

Next week gordano take the short trip over the hill to take on old rivals Nailsea and backwell, 3pm ko.
