Gordano Sharks have progressed into the last four of the Bristol Combination Vase after comprehensively beating Chipping Sodbury at Caswell Lane on Wednesday night. A sizable crowd braved the freezing wind to watch this first match under the club's new floodlights. Gordano soon showed greater skill and strength against their opponents from Gloucester One.
Lock Marcus Stratton opened the scoring after 10 minutes when he he got on the end of a Tom Arnall pass to go under the posts. He then repeated the scoring act 5 minutes later when his managed to barge over the line again. Joe Rowsall outsmarted the defence on the half hour mark to glide through a gap to add a try to his two first half conversions. Chipping Sodbury managed a converted try and penalty of their own to make the score 19 - 10 at half time.
In the second half, Gordano really took charge with further tries from Ed Whitaker grabbing two and Owen Abbott and Joe Harris getting one each to make the final score 45 - 10. 7 tries and lots of running rugby was a fitting tribute to all the work that has been put into raise the money for the truly impressive floodlights. Gordano now face Gloucester Premier league Leaders in the Semi Final of this competition on a date to decided.
Gordano 2nds continued their impressive form on Saturday with a 31 - 0 victory agaisnst their Keynsham counterparts. The Sharks reserves currently sit in 3rd place in Somerset 2 North division.
