This week we lost our oldest and most ardent supporter Dennis, Uncle Albert, Durin’ the War Chandler who lost his short fight against cancer. He was 90.

Dennis has been supporting our club every week for more than 30 years, watching his son, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and grandchildren play. Although his age and health prevented him being pitch side these last couple of years, in the past he wouldn’t miss a game, home or away and in all weather and he was the founding member of The Old Farts.
He loved rugby and played prop for the Combined Services in Plymouth during the war until an opponent mistook his hip for the ball and ended his playing career. His father founded St Marys rugby club and gave them their ground. One of his brothers, Peter, played on the wing for Bristol.

He was one of the kindest and funniest men I have known. He and his two brothers were known as the Chuckle Brothers in the Kicker because they didn’t stop laughing on their weekly lunch time meeting telling funny anecdotes keeping many bystanders amused.
We have all lost a very good friend and our thoughts are with his wife Maureen and family. For those of you who knew Dennis, we will be raising a glass to him in the clubhouse when we return from Saturdays Cup game.

Funeral details to follow once we know.

These very kind words have been written by Denis's long friend Mark Bullen.
